gDiaper Review
Aug 12th
I have to admit I fell for the cuteness factor of the little gPants and them being a great green “hybrid of diapers” was just an added bonus.

Seriously, how can you not love the look of these?!
Overtime it was the green factor that had me coming back for more:
I had a bit of a problem right away with the fitting of the gPants. They absorbed well, looked great, but the little snaps that hold the liner in was cutting into M’s skin. T was not impressed with that at all. He wanted to nix them right then and there. So we took a break from the gDiapers for a while.
After spending a fortune on disposables and single handedly adding tons of diapers to the local dump, I put my carbon conscious foot print down. I started using the gDiapers again but this time I put M in a size large and P was in a medium. They worked great, however T thought the disposable inserts were “too much hassle” (they are not that bad, T can just be cranky some time!) and I wanted a cloth option.
At this time gDiapers wasn’t making a cloth option. They do now. I Googled and found a pattern to make your own inserts. I have made some adjustments to the pattern over time and now am happy with the results.

adjustment: rounded corners, slightly smaller outer edge.
I use gDiapers all the time now and even T is on board! My boys’ bums have never been greener or looked cuter than they do now. I almost hope M waits a bit longer before potty training so I can keep him in the gPants…come to think of it, they would make great training undies. M can pull them off by himself, he is comfortable in them… genius! A moment of Mommy brilliance!!

And it must be said, at this time I am getting nothing from the gDiaper people. Maybe someday I will get a muffin basket and a thank you card for the positive review… Besides, rumor has it, muffins are not good for a girl on a diet!
**UPDATE**
I had contacted gDiapers to tell them about the problems I had with their cloth inserts and got a response immediately from them. They really are great with customer service. Really great. After a bit of phone tag, I spoke directly to Kim, the co-founder and president of gDiapers. She asked about my problems and I explained why I wasn’t impressed. She was full of questions and wanted to know everything from the type of washer I used to what I used in my own inserts.
She explained that 80-some percent of the reviews of the cloth diapers were very positive, but a small handful did not like them at all. It ends up that depending on the style of washer you have (mine is a front loading LG) the hemp of the cloth insert reacts differently. The amount of spinning your washer does (the more spinning the more energy efficient) the more the inserts will shrink. My washer spins like crazy. It spins more than the room does after I have had 1/2 a bottle of wine.
Needless to say, the gDiapers shrunk, thus (did I just use the word thus?!) when the boys wore them the inserts would bunch and move around inside the gPant.
She asked about my inserts because they debated for a long time whether or not to use hemp, the more expensive but more effective material over a microfiber, which is cheaper but bulkier and less absorbent. I use microfiber because I can get a pack that cost $3 and will yield me 4 inserts. Hemp can not do that. I may change out my inserts more, but for the cost, the hassle is worth it.

So all in all I like gDiapers. My boys’ bum will be sporting the little g symbol until they (please pray for us) finally get out of diapers! And when we get pregnant again and if I we are blessed with a little girl. She will wear this gPant all the time.

I am working on writing a post about this, but for now…. here is a pic of my latest endeavor. With the help from a pattern I found on Flickr, I am making inserts for the boys’ gDiapers. I am pretty excited about it. So far the ones I have made work pretty well but are not nearly as absorbent as I would like. I am positive the second batch of them will work better because I filled them with microfiber as suggested instead of the layers of flannel I fill the first batch with.
